What it might mean if Colts get to 10-0

If the Colts win Sunday, they will be the 12th team (and the Saints could be the 13th) to start a season 10-0 since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970.

That would offer no guarantees about their potential for postseason success, however.

Only five of the 11 teams that have started 10-0 have gone on to win the Super Bowl, most recently the 1998 Denver Broncos.

If both the Colts and Saints win, it would be just the third time in NFL history in which two teams began a season 10-0.

The 1990 Giants and 49ers each began 10-0. The Giants won Super Bowl XXV, beating the 49ers in the NFC title game to get there.
