The Titans let the Texans know they will not grant permission for Houston to talk with Mike Munchak about its offensive coordinator job, John McClain and Mark Berman reported Tuesday evening.

Munchak is a Pro Football Hall of Fame guard and coaches the offensive line that just blocked for 2,000-yard rusher Chris Johnson. He’s close friends with Bruce Matthews, the Oilers-Titans Hall of Famer who he played with and coached. Matthews is now a Texans assistant.

Gary Kubiak will need a new coordinator now that Kyle Shanahan will join his father Mike in Washington.

I can’t say how interested Munchak would have been in the post. I think he’d have been intrigued by the promotion and the chance to reunite with Matthews. But I also think he would have had a difficult time parting ways with the line that just joined elite company and the only organization he’s ever known.

I also suspect Kubiak knew the Titans would stand in the way.

Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger could get a look for the Buffalo head coaching job. If he left, Fisher might consider Munchak for the post.
