NFL spokesman says umpire move 'definite'
By Paul Kuharsky
I exchanged e-mails with NFL spokesman Michael Signora Friday morning regarding the Colts' umpire issues Thursday night in Green Bay.
Here's the league's stance on the move of the umpire into the backfield except for during the final two minutes of each half and on field goals and extra points:
"The movement of the umpire to the offensive backfield will happen in the regular-season. We continue to analyze and review the impact of the change in the preseason, and we may announce some tweaks to the mechanics of the position prior to the regular season, but the move is a definite."
