Sackable Michael Vick dangerous downfield
By Paul Kuharsky
The Jaguars spent their offseason rebuilding their pass rush. They’ve had mixed results so far.
But as the Philadelphia Eagles come to town, if Jacksonville has improved as much as it hopes, the line and any blitzers should have ample opportunity to get to Michael Vick.
According to ESPN Stats & Info, among all quarterbacks with 50 or more starts since 2001, only David Carr has been sacked more frequently than Vick. Vick has been sacked once every 10.2 pass attempts. Carr has been sacked once every 9.5 pass attempts.
But if Vick’s offensive line is able to hold up for him and provide time for routes to develop, the Jaguars and their iffy secondary could have issues.
When throwing more than 10 yards downfield so far, Vick’s production is outstanding when compared to quarterbacks with at least 20 such attempts. Vick is 11-for-20 for 262 yards and two touchdowns on those balls, with a passer rating of 133.3, second only to Peyton Manning's rating of 135.4.
