During a talk with Quentin Groves back in June, I asked the Jaguars second-year defensive end about the offensive lineman who's given him the most trouble.
Here's what he said:
"It's been here, first when I went against Tra Thomas in these hats. People say you can't see too much in these OTAs. But he gets me frustrated because I know his timing, but then he still is able to get a hand on me. So I would say Tra.
"A close second would probably be a guy where I just said, 'Oh my goodness, I've got to deal with this guy again?" -= the guy from Baltimore, [Jared] Gaither. He's a Willie Anderson, he's just like Willie. He's long, he's like 6-9 and he just leans on you. It's 'Oh my goodness.'
"I kind of got a little pressure but not a lot. My definition of locking me down is I don't even touch the quarterback. He's a guy that I kind of sniffed the quarterback a little and let him know I was there, but I didn't get a sack. [Joe] Flacco had a good day all together."
The Jaguars lost that game, their season finale at Baltimore, 27-7.
With a mention of Groves, I feel compelled to offer another arrow to his Twitter account, as he was by far the most enthusiastic tweeter I encountered during my spring tour of minicamps and OTAs. (Also he's the lone guy I've found that's following the blog. You can join him here.) We both can step up our material.
