QBR: T.J. Yates' solid Saturday
By Paul Kuharsky
Saturday’s quarterback performance by Texans rookie T.J. Yates resulted in a 97.7 passer rating and a 58.0 QBR.
The Texans relied mainly on their ground game Saturday, as Yates attempted only 20 passes, completing 11 for 159 yards. Only four of Yates’ completions traveled more than 10 yards in the air, one of which was his 40-yard touchdown pass to Andre Johnson late in the third quarter. Yates’ Total QBR increased from 43.5 to 58.5 on that play, and he only had one pass attempt for the remainder of the game.
Cincinnati’s Andy Dalton, a more heralded rookie who started from opening day, posted a 51.4 passer rating and a 26.8 QBR with three interceptions and four sacks. His QBR plummeted from 76.7 to 33.4 on J.J. Watt's at-the-line interception and touchdown return late in the first half.
Passer rating maxes out at 158.3; QBR goes to 100.
For a game, QBR can be interpreted as a percentile, so a score of 80 means a QB’s performance was better than 80 percent of all QB games.
