We are not very popular
By Paul Kuharsky
We are not very popular.
It’s hardly a surprise.
The AFC South is the least popular division in the NFL among fans according to the latest ESPN Sports Poll gauging fan favorites.
With two relocated franchises and two expansion franchises, our teams have pretty shallow roots and hardly compete with teams like the Cowboys, Packers, Giants, Steelers or Patriots. Those five teams each account for a higher percentage of fans than all four of the AFC South teams combined.
Mike Sando of NFC West blog fame pulled together the accompanying division-by-division chart (as well as this post).
The teams of the NFC East are nearly four times more popular than the teams of the AFC South.
This polling goes on constantly and is, of course, fluid.
While the numbers may appear extreme, I actually think you’d find more than four fans of the Cowboys, Giants, Eagles and Redskins for every one fan of the Colts, Texans, Titans and Jaguars.
