Before we get a sense, Freeney out of action

By Paul Kuharsky

They’ll be no real review of Dwight Freeney’s first game as an outside linebacker.

He left the Indianapolis Colts41-21 loss to the Chicago Bears in the first quarter with an ankle injury and didn’t get back in.

"We'll go back, and I'm sure they'll do a MRI on Dwight and see what the severity of that is," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. "He'll be day to day."

If it’s severe, Freeney could, of course, be worse than day to day.

Jerry Hughes is the Colts' third outside linebacker and worked in Freeney’s place. Neither Freeney or Hughes made the defensive stat sheet.

The Colts were already without inside linebacker Pat Angerer, who has been out of action since early in the preseason with a fractured foot.

Indianapolis’ other pass-rushing end turned outside linebacker in the new hybrid 3-4, Robert Mathis, sacked Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler twice in the loss.
