Patriots held down Luck-to-Wayne
By Paul Kuharsky
Colts receiver Reggie Wayne entered Week 11 as the league leader in targets (105) and receptions (69).
Andrew Luck looked to Wayne 15 times Sunday against the Patriots in New England's 59-24 win.
Bill Belichick is well-known for finding ways to take away the things an opponent likes to do best or and tends to do the most.
New England’s defense made sure Luck completed less than half of his passes to Wayne.
Here’s a comparison of Luck targeting Wayne in the Colts' first nine games this season versus on Sunday, when he found him seven times in 15 targets for 72 yards.
- Completion percentage: 65.7 (first 9 games) to 46.7 (Sunday)
- Yards per attempts: 8.9 to 4.8
- TDs to interceptions: 3-5 to 0-3
- First-down percentage: 47.6 to 26.7
On the road this season, Luck now has zero touchdowns and six interceptions targeting Wayne.
The Colts did get an efficient 100-yard receiving game from rookie T.Y Hilton while the Patriots limited Wayne. Hilton caught six passes for 100 on the dot, with touchdowns of 14 and 43 yards.
