Titans saw good results during bye
By Paul Kuharsky
It was a good weekend for the 3-4 Tennessee Titans, considering they didn’t play.
Heading into Week 8, there were two four-win teams just ahead of the Titans and several other three-win teams in the early fight for the AFC's second wild-card spot.
San Diego (4-3) was off, and the Jets (4-4) were blown out by Cincinnati. (The Titans have wins over both the Chargers and Jets.) The other teams with a chance to get to four wins -- Miami, Buffalo and Cleveland -- all lost.
One result wasn't good: Oakland's win over Pittsburgh added the Raiders to the 3-4 club.
So as the Titans prepare for a trip to St. Louis looking to end a three-game losing skid, they are not in terrible position. The Rams play Monday night against Seattle, in their first game without starting quarterback Sam Bradford, then have a short week to get ready. St. Louis could well be 3-5 when Tennessee comes to town.
The Titans will be expected to get back to .500 in that game, and after that comes a visit from winless Jacksonville. The Titans are capable of losing to either team. But they could also easily sit at 5-4 through nine games.
And of the six three-win teams in the AFC, the Titans' minus-1 point differential is second to idle Baltimore (plus-2) and two touchdowns better than Miami's.
This completes your glass-half-full update.
