INDIANAPOLIS -- Here are some things worth noting from the Colts' win on Sunday:
What it Means: The Colts can feel a heck of a lot better about themselves, having cured a lot that ailed them in Week 1 at Houston. This game wasn’t in doubt for a second and the win puts them bunched with Tennessee and Jacksonville at 1-1 behind the Texans in the AFC South. Reports of their demise were greatly exaggerated.
Tomorrow’s talker: The Giants seemed so wary of the pass game that they may have overdone it with with the extra defensive backs. That made it easier for the Colts to run it, and Joseph Addai and Donald Brown looked just great with the ball in their hands, combining for 161 yards and a 4.5 average. Addai looked particularly fresh, decisive and darting. Dare the Colts to run and they can do it. Then watch them hit a beautiful play-action pass like the 50-yard Peyton Manning-to-Dallas Clark pass and fingertip catch in the second quarter.
What I liked: Nobody does the sack-strip deal better than Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. They each produced a turnover with such a play, and Fili Moala plucked the Eli Manning fumble caused by Freeney for a 1-yard touchdown return. Also, Reggie Wayne’s 10-yard touchdown catch from Peyton Manning was a thing of beauty: thrown to Wayne’s back shoulder, where he pivoted to it leaving Terrell Thomas without a chance.
What’s Next: The Colts travel to Denver for a matchup with the Broncos at Invesco Field at Mile High.
