Before training camps kick off, a number of players and some coaches will pay tribute to people who helped them make it to the NFL as part of the AFC South Blog’s summer series: “Early Influence.”

“Outside of my parents, who obviously had a great influence with my dad being my coach growing up in three sports and my mom being my No. 1 fan, it would be my high school coach, Joe Carroll [at East High School in West Chester, Pa.].
“I started as a sophomore. You weren’t quite ready, but you were given the reins and you’ve got to go play. I just learned under fire how to play the quarterback position and he always had my back. He taught me a lot about handling the team and handling the huddle and handling adversity. That really helped me as I got older with some of the adversity I had to deal with.”
