Denver’s trade with Cleveland for quarterback Brady Quinn is the winner of this week’s "you pick it – AFC West story line" feature.
The other candidates were former Chargers star LaDainian Tomlinson signing with the Jets and Oakland trading for Cleveland linebacker Kamerion Wimbley.
I agree with the readers. Tomlinson’s story is big, but it was much bigger three weeks ago when San Diego cut him. Quarterbacks being traded is a big deal, especially when they are 25-year-old former first-round picks.
Below are some of your responses. Thanks to everyone who participated:
Rob Clark from Solana Beach, Calif.: Bill -- The story has to be Brady Quinn going to Denver. Tomlinson leaving San Diego was something that we knew was just a matter of time, but the Brady Quinn trade was a surprise and changes everything for the Broncos. He was traded to a system he thrived in at Notre Dame. This trade has the potential to change the AFC West for years to come.
Daylon from Wyoming: Has to be Quinn, LT leaving for the Jets or Vikes was not a suprise (although the Jets dumping a highly productive 30+ RB for a less productive 30 RB for the same money is a head-scratcher) the Quinn trade was a heck of a deal. He didn't exaclty have the greatest talent around him at CLE, maybe he can put it together behind a good line and with receivers than can actually catch the ball (unlike Braylon "drop" Edwards). I'm looking forward to this year for sure!
Zach from Spokane, Wash.: The storyline of the week has to be Quinn going to Denver. Not only did Denver give up very little to get Quinn (Hillis was a McDaniels afterthought), but Quinn and Orton will push each other for the starting spot. And in all reality, if whoever the starting QB is gets injured, we are much better set at #2 with Chris Simms gone.
Kurt from San Diego: LT to the Jets is the #1 story. I think LT going there shows LT still doesn't accept that his skills are declining. He made a lot of excuses for his performance the past 2 years (injuries, coaching philosophy, line play) but the bottom line is he lost his quickness after that groin strain 2 years ago. (He never had breakway speed.) Well, now we will see with the "#1 OL in the NFL". I think he is in for a rude awakening and NY media will kill him. They already have started on him because of his nickname. His best bet would have been to retire, accept less from the BOLTS, or go to MINN and be the 3rd down back. Instead I see him joining Emmitt and Edgerrin. Sad.
Matt from Clinton, Mo.: You pick it: AFC West story lines.Bill, It has to be Brady Quinn being traded to Denver when ever a former first round pick get's trade it's big news. Brady Quinn has not lived up to the hype and I am not sold on him that said it's a QB driven league. Time will tell how it works out but Denver didn't give up much for him it's low risk high reward kinda deal.
