The candidates are:
San Diego gets two picks from Seattle: San Diego traded No. 3 quarterback Charlie Whitehurst to the Seahawks. As compensation, the two teams switched second-round picks next month. The Chargers will have the No. 40 overall pick and Seattle will have the No. 60 pick. Also, Seattle will send San Diego a third-round pick next year.
Compensatory picks given: San Diego received a fifth-round pick and Oakland received a seventh-round pick as compensatory picks next month.
San Diego releases Byrd: The Chargers cut receiver Demetrius Byrd on Monday. He was a seventh-round pick last year. Byrd was considered a third-round prospect, but suffered serious injuries in an auto accident a week before the draft. He never fully regained his health.
