The Denver Post reports that the team’s new center will not be free agent Kevin Mawae. The paper cites Mawae’s age (he’s 39) and his small frame. Denver cut starter Casey Wiegmann (who has since signed with Kansas City) because it wants to get bigger on the offensive line.

• The Chiefs want their renovated new stadium to be in the national spotlight.

• Denver coach Josh McDaniels backs up what has been thought for a week -- Kyle Orton, and not Brady Quinn, heads into the 2010 season as the Broncos’ starting quarterback.

• The Raiders brought backbackup defensive tackle William Joseph.
