Just got up from under my hotel room desk (yes, it is a big desk). There was just an earthquake in Southern California.
I am staying four miles from the Chargers' facility and it shook pretty good. Just got off the phone with Scott Yoffe of the Charges' PR department. He was in his office with punter Mike Scifres at the time of the quake. He said the building shook fairly hard but the building and everyone is safe. Practice is still scheduled for 4 p.m. PT.
This was not exactly the California flavor I was aiming for. I am a Bay Area native so earthquakes are nothing new. But it has been a while. The last earthquake I remember experiencing was the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989 which collapsed part of the Bay Bridge and disrupted the Bay Bridge World Series. I still think my Giants would have rebounded from a 2-0 deficit had the quake not occurred. But I digress.
Anyway, back to the grind. Just another day in Sunny Southern California.
