There are some interesting draft eve developments in Kansas City and Oakland to discuss.
McClain is expected to go in the 10-15 range. I wouldn’t have a huge problem with it. McClain looks like a sure thing and the Chiefs need a linebacker. If Kansas City thinks he’ll be a star, then it should take him. However, the Chiefs could potentially trade down a few spots and take McClain and get another good pick or two. That would be ideal.
There is talk Kansas City is talking trade with San Francisco. The 49ers have the No. 13 and No. 17 picks. McClain could possibly be had at No. 13 (if Denver doesn’t take him at No. 11) but he won’t fall past the Giants at No. 15.
Oakland: ESPN’s Michael Smith is reporting that the Raiders are seriously considering taking Idaho guard Mike Iupati at No. 8. I love this player. Love him. I think he is going to be a superstar. I can see why Oakland loves him. Oakland coach Tom Cable played and coached at Idaho and he is an offensive-line specialist.
But there are some sticking points to Oakland taking Iupati at No. 8. He is guard, who some teams think can move to tackle. The Raiders have a huge need at left tackle. Taking Iupati so high -- and bypassing other left tackle prospects -- with the hopes of him moving positions is risky. Plus, he is expected to go in the lower half of the draft. I’d rather see Oakland trade down 8-10 spots and take him there.
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Pittsburgh is willing to trade embattled quarterback Ben Roethlisberger for a top-10 pick. Schefter reports at least one team with a top-10 pick is interested. The Raiders want to add a quarterback, so they have to be considered a team that may consider trading for Roethlisberger.
We’ll have much more on that potential pairing if it develops.
