Tim Tebow, Jason Campbell updates

There is quarterback news out of Denver and Oakland:

On ESPN’s “NFL Live,” Ed Werder said Wednesday afternoon that a contract for rookie quarterback Tim Tebowcould be imminent, and the two sides are working hard to finalize a deal. Werder said a deal could be in place in the next 24 hours.

Denver’s rookies start practice Wednesday. However, fellow quarterbacks Kyle Orton and Brady Quinnwere at a meeting Wednesday even though veterans don’t start practice until Sunday. Werder reported that Denver coach Josh McDaniels called Tebow on Wednesday morning and told him he is missing important time.

Because of his reputation as a hard worker, expect Tebow to try to get to camp as soon as possible. It looks like that could happen soon.

Coach Tom Cable said newly acquired quarterback Jason Campbell is the starter. Cable held off on that until Wednesday, even though it was obvious Campbell would be the starter.

He wasn’t acquired from Washington to sit. Good to see that the charade is over. There was never any doubt Campbell would be behind center.
