The following is a look at why I placed the AFC West teams where I did in the Week 17 NFL power rankings:
- Power ranking: 16
- Where I ranked them: I had San Diego ranked 20th. I had the Chargers as the highest-ranked eight-loss team. The Chargers are surging at the right time.
- Power ranking: 20
- Where I ranked them: I ranked Denver 19th. I only had Denver ranked ahead of San Diego on record. The Chargers are playing better right now going into the showdown. I had Denver ranked as the lowest-ranked seven-loss team.
- Power ranking: 27
- Where I ranked them: I had the Raiders ranked 27th and they get out of my AFC West cellar with the win.
- Power ranking: 30
- Where I ranked them: I had Kansas City ranked 30th. The Chiefs have been feisty, but 2-13 teams are 2-13 and being ranked 30th suits the Chiefs these days.
