Wiegmann

It's interesting time for Denver center Casey Wiegmann.

He told reporters last week that he may consider retirement, but that he felt good. He wasn't sure of his plans.

There is surely a spot for the former Kansas City standout in Oakland. Longtime Denver center Tom Nalen, who has missed the past 27 games due to injury, is expected to retire. Wiegmann was signed to a modest contract before the season started as an insurance policy for Nalen.

He ended up being one of Denver's best additions. Wiegmann had an outstanding season and was named a first alternate to the Pro Bowl team. There is a good chance that Wiegmann, who nearly retired during the offseason last year, ends up in the Pro Bowl because Tennessee's Kevin Mawae is dealing with an elbow injury.

Will Wiegmann be rechargerd and decide to come back? There are indications he would be open to a long-term extension in Denver.

This much is clear -- Denver has a need at center and Wiegmann is still playing at a high level.
