San Diego Chargers: Three things

Three things San Diego needs to work on this week in preparation for Monday’s opener at Kansas City:

Take the Chiefs out of the game: The Chiefs are going to be sky high as they play in a rare Monday night game and as they open the New Arrowhead Stadium. The Chargers must take the Chiefs out of the game very early. If San Diego takes a quick double-digit lead it could deflate the home team and prematurely alter hopes for an upset.

Air it out: The Chargers are one of the most powerful passing teams in the NFL. Philip Rivers throws one of the prettiest deep balls. The Chargers need to test the Chiefs' young secondary and try to rattle their confidence. Nothing ends talks of an upset like a couple long touchdown passes.

Contain the run: The Chiefs can stay in this game on the ground. Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones can be a load. San Diego has struggled against fine running teams in the past. San Diego has to stop the bleeding and not let Charles and Jones take over.
