AFC West veteran draft: San Diego Chargers

Posted by ESPN.com's Bill Williamson

The Chargers are a team without a ton of glaring holes. They can get by with what they have. Any player drafted here is stacking a loaded roster.

My pick here may be out of the box and may illicit argument. But I'm giving San Diego linebacker Patrick Willis. Yes, if I could add any player to San Diego's roster, it would be Willis, who just ended his second season in San Francisco.

Willis would be a perfect fit in San Diego and make the Chargers a dominant team. The Chargers could use an inside linebacker and there is no better young inside linebacker than Willis. He has registered 315 tackles in two NFL seasons and made the Pro Bowl both seasons. He is an instinctive tackle machine. He set the tone for the defense.

He thrives in the 3-4 defense that San Diego uses. Considering the Chargers are getting back a healthy Shawne Merriman in 2009, they are a dominant inside linebacker away from being a clear Super Bowl contender.

That's why Willis is the choice.
