The Chargers are considering putting the franchise tag on Sproles if he doesn't sign a long-term deal by Thursday. That is the deadline for teams to place the franchise tag on players.
Should San Diego do it? Sproles is a situational back, but he is a multiple threat. He is an excellent change-of-pace running back, a fine receiver and an elite return man. The Chargers can't afford to lose him.
With starter LaDainian Tomlinson and the team discussing a restructured contract to stay in San Diego, should the Chargers commit more than $6 million in 2009 to Sproles or should they let him test the free-agent waters?
Hit my mailbag and let me know. I will post some of your responses later in the week.
