It was announced Thursday that the Rocky Mountain News is closing. Friday's edition will be the paper's final. The Rocky is Colorado's oldest newspaper and is nearly 150 years old.

I worked at the Denver Post for four years and I competed daily on the Denver Broncos beat against the Rocky Mountain News. Sure, it was competition but it was also very healthy and I enjoyed working so closely with the folks who worked there.

I say thank you to the Rocky's two Broncos beat writers, Jeff Legwold and Lee Rasizer, who I have gotten to know over the years. They were capable competitors and good journalists. I have often linked to stories on the Broncos from the Rocky Mountain News in this role and not scanning the paper will be a daily routine I will miss. I'm sure it will also be missed by loyal Broncos fans as a Colorado institution closes.
