Weekend mail call:

Ohio: with the chiefs getting cassel what will they do with thigpen? i am sure there are some teams that need a quarterback and would like to try and trade a mid round draft pick for him.

Bill Williamson: I could see a team such as Chicago or Tampa Bay trying to trade for him. But I could also see him being kept in Kansas City as a strong backup option.

mojo from Castle Rock: Why would McDaniels even think about letting Stokely go?

BW: I'm baffled, too. But why would McDaniels think of trading Jay Cutler? It's a new system in Denver and McDaniels is clearly interested playing people who he thinks fit his system well.

Brian from San Diego: Hey Bill, I don't know if you've answered this question already but I'm dying to have an answer to it. Could Michael Vick become a Raider? You could rotate him in to run the wildcat with Darren McFadden. I know it's a long shot but I keep seeing him in silver and black. That would be classic Raiders and classic Al Davis, and if he resurrected his career there it would be even more fitting. I was watching Pardon the Interruption and Michael Wilbon has the same opinion, but I'd really like to know your thoughts.

BW: Maybe in 2010. I think the Raiders will make a decision then on quarterback JaMarcus Russell depending on whether he struggles in 2009. But he needs to be given the season to see what he can do. Plus, I don't see Vick being reinstated in 2009.

Dave from Philly: Great Job on the blog this year. Quick question - do you think it made sense to for the Broncos to spend money on long-snapper Lonie Paxton when they already had a good long-snapper in Mike Leach? Sure we have salary cap room is but why spend money on a non-need area when there are clearly many other holes to fill like the D line. Your thoughts?

BW: Thanks, Dave. I found it strange as well. Yes, Paxton is good. But Leach was nearly perfect in Denver. It seemed like an unnecessary change.
