Here are some areas the Kansas City Chiefs need to focus on after a 23-20 overtime loss to the Oakland Raiders:

Recap: The Chiefs had a great chance to take a 2.5-game lead in the AFC West. Instead, they are now clinging to a half-game lead over Oakland. This game had many twists and turns and the Chiefs had plenty of chances to close the door on the Raiders, but they couldn’t get it done.

Biggest area to fix: penalties: The Chiefs were flagged 12 times for 100 yards Sunday. They saw 10 points go of the scoreboard because of penalties. Good teams don’t play this sloppy for long.

Biggest area to build on: run defense. For much of the game, Kansas City’s run defense did well against Oakland’s running game, which is ranked No. 2 in the NFL. Darren McFadden ran hard and ate up some yardage when it counted, but for the most part, Kansas City’s run defense played well.

What to watch for: The Chiefs have a chance to take a full-game lead over Oakland when they play at 2-6 Denver on Sunday. The Chiefs need to bounce back and finish drives better in this winnable game.
