Here are some areas the San Diego Chargers need to focus on after a 29-23 win at Houston:
Recap: The Chargers came back in the second half for the second straight week and improved to 4-5. It was San Diego’s first road win of the season in five tries and the Chargers could be on their way to another late-season resurgence.
Biggest area to fix: special teams. Yes, it’s getting old. San Diego had its fifth punt of the season blocked. It technically wasn’t a block because went forward and it traveled one yard. But, yes, the ball was blocked. That’s inexcusable. It’s beyond silly that issues on special teams hurt this team every game.
Biggest area to build on: quarterback play. Philip Rivers is carrying this team. Playing without his top four receivers and without star tight end Antonio Gates, Rivers threw for 295 yards and four touchdowns. Is there anyone in the NFL playing better than Rivers right now?
What to watch for: San Diego has a bye but then plays three of its next four game at home against all of its AFC West competition, beginning Nov. 22 against Denver on "Monday Night Football." This is the Chargers’ time to make a move.
