DANA POINT, Calif. -- The Jay Cutler saga continued to be a major topic at the NFL owner's meeting Monday and it will likely be one during the rest of the meeting.
Denver sources maintain that the team doesn't want to trade Cutler. The team is hopeful that it can meet with Cutler again in an attempt to mend fences. The two sides have had a conference call and an in-person meeting without reconciling.
Some in the organization hope that cooler heads will prevail eventually. Still, if Denver feels like it has no choice but to trade Cutler it will likely be by or during the April 25-26 draft.
It doesn't seem like Cutler is any closer to cooling down. A source close to Cutler confirmed a Denver Post report that said Cutler recently didn't return a text message from new Denver coach Josh McDaniels who is at the center of the issue with Cutler.
Meanwhile, CBS4 in Denver is reporting that Cutler still plans to report to Denver's mandatory April 17 camp. Cutler told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on March 15 that he will report to the mandatory dates but he still wants to be traded. Cutler has been skipping Denver's offseason workout program that started March 16. He is close to foregoing a $100,000 bonus for missing the workouts.
The situation should get interesting Tuesday morning when McDaniels meets with the media.
