Ryan from Daly City, Calif., wants to know if I’d think the Oakland Raiders would be making progress if they finished 8-8.

Bill Williamson: Sure, no doubt about it. This is a team that hadn’t won more than five games in a season since 2002. An eight-win season would be solid progress. But we have to remember, the Raiders talked very big this season. They were not afraid to talk about the playoffs. An 8-8 finish might be a disappointment to the team. but strides are being made in Oakland. The Raiders need to get better on defense, make sure Jason Campbell is the quarterback of the immediate future, hope to develop their receivers better and have a good draft to ensure the team is on the upswing.

Joel Splittgerber from San Diego wants to know if I think Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh could be a candidate in Denver.

BW: He’s going to be attractive a lot of NFL teams. He has a history with Denver legend John Elway, who is expected to join the Broncos’ front office. While I think he may be too pricey in the end for Denver’s tastes, he’d be an interesting fit.

Jeremy from San Francisco wants to know if Vincent Jackson could stay in San Diego.

BW: One of Jackson’s agents said last week that Jackson would be open to staying in San Diego with a new long-term contract. But the key is whether San Diego wants to give him a new deal. San Diego has been reluctant to give Jackson a big long-term deal. It will be interesting to see if the Chargers change their mind. They could easily buy themselves another year by giving Jackson the franchise tag in February essentially ensuring that he will stay in San Diego in 2011.
