Simplifying AFC West playoff chase

We’ve talked a lot about the AFC West playoff possibilities. Even though three teams – Kansas City, San Diego and Oakland – are alive in the division chase with two games to go, the scenarios are not all that complicated.

Thanks to Alok D. Pattani of ESPN Stats & Information, below is a simple breakdown of the AFC West chase. You might want to save this. By the way, the only way the race ends in Week 16 is if Kansas City wins and San Diego loses:

How Chiefs Can Win AFC West:

1) KC wins last 2 games (vs. TEN, vs. OAK)

OR

2) KC wins 1 of last 2 games AND SD loses once (at CIN, at DEN)

OR

3) SD loses last 2 games AND OAK loses Week 16 vs. IND

>>Does not include scenarios involving tie games

How Chargers Can Win AFC West:

1) SD wins last 2 games (at CIN, at DEN) AND KC loses once (vs. TEN, vs. OAK)

OR

2) SD wins once AND KC loses twice AND OAK loses once (vs. IND, at KC)

>>Does not include scenarios involving tie games

How Raiders Can Win AFC West:

OAK wins last 2 games (vs. IND, at KC)

AND

KC loses Week 16 vs. TEN

AND

SD loses at least 1 of next 2 games (at CIN, at DEN)
