Todd McShay's latest mock draft is up. Let's examine his AFC West picks:
3. Kansas City: Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry.
My take: I agree. Curry has to be the pick if he is on the board. The Chiefs have major defensive needs and Curry is considered an instant impact player. Kansas City would have a strong group of linebackers with Curry in the mix.
7. Oakland: Alabama tackle Andre Smith
My take: This would be interesting. Smith is a huge talent but he has had some issues this offseason that could cause him to slide down the board. But he'd be a great value pick at No. 7 based on talent alone. In McShay's mock draft, Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree is off the board, so this choice could make sense. Oakland definitely needs a left tackle. This week, Oakland coach Tom Cable called Smith a "dynamite" player.
12. Denver: LSU defensive end Tyson Jackson
My take: Jackson has been linked to Denver because he is a 3-4 player who fits the Broncos' new scheme. Still, it may be a little high to take Jackson. I'd take my chances and hope San Diego doesn't take him at No. 16 and then try to grab him at No. 18.
16. San Diego: Ohio State CB/S Malcolm Jenkins
My take: This is becoming a popular pick, but it may be too risky. The Chargers don't need a cornerback; they need a safety. What if Jenkins can't make the transition? The Chargers need to pick up a stud defender here. Jenkins could be that guy, but there are safer picks out there. They should try to find a linebacker.
18. Denver: Florida State DE/LB Everette Brown
My take: The Broncos need a ton of defensive help and this could be a good choice. This is one of the showcase picks from the Jay Cutler trade. The Broncos need to make it work.
