Tuesday was the day that San Diego tight end Antonio Gates had to be medically cleared to play in the Pro Bowl Jan. 30. Earlier Tuesday, the Chargers said they hadn’t heard if Gates was cleared. The chances of that happening have been very small. Gates was put on the injured reserve with a foot injury after the Chargers were knocked out of the playoff race. I’d be surprised if Gates were to come back and play in Hawaii.
If Gates can’t play, Oakland tight end Zach Miller is expected to be promoted to the Pro Bowl team. It has been reported out of Oakland that Miller is the AFC's first alternate at the position.
Progress in the attempt to bring the NFL back to Los Angeles is being noticed in San Diego, where fans want to make sure it’s not their team that eventually ends up there.
