New Denver coach John Fox continued to try to add the final key piece to his Broncos’ staff by interviewing a candidate to be the defensive coordinator.

The Denver Post reported that Fox interviewed New Orleans defensive backs coach Dennis Allen for the job in Charlotte, where Fox is attending to personal business. Fox will travel from Charlotte to Mobile, Ala., early next week. The Denver staff, led by legendary quarterback and new football leader John Elway, will scout the Senior Bowl.

Fox wants to have his staff intact next week. Another potential candidate is Green Bay defensive line coach Mike Trgovac. He was Fox’s defensive coordinator for six years in Carolina. Trgovac can’t be interviewed until the Packers’ season is over. They play in the NFC title game Sunday in Chicago.
  • In addition to Denver’s open defensive coordinator job, the other key openings in the AFC West are offensive coordinator in Kansas City and defensive coordinator in Oakland. Kansas City coach Todd Haley continued the interview process for his opening Friday with an unknown candidate.
