He ended up 1,697 yards short of his goal.
Thursday, he lost his job. Denver cut the two-year veteran tailback. Young, who was signed out of Texas as an undrafted free agent in 2007, gained 1,032 yards in his Denver career. Young was Denver's starting tailback at times but injuries helped curtail his production.
Among the teams that could consider claiming Young off waivers are Houston and New Orleans.
Young's release is no surprise. Denver signed three veteran free agent running backs and then used the No. 12 overall pick on Georgia tailback Knowshon Moreno in last weekend's draft. He is expected to be a workhorse runner for Denver.
In addition to Selvin Young, Ryan Torain could also be a candidate for release. He was a fifth-round pick last year.
