The Raiders wanted wide receiver Will Franklin earlier this offseason.
This week, they finally got him.
Yet, the intrigue of Franklin has lost some of its shine. Franklin was just waived by Detroit, weeks after the team claimed him off waivers from Kansas City. He was a fourth-round pick by the Chiefs in 2008. He is the highest draft pick of that class to be cut thus far.
Kansas City cut him because he didn't fit the new regime's system. Detroit and Oakland both jumped on him. However, the Lions quickly decided he didn't fit their plan, either.
Still, Oakland was willing to give Franklin a chance. It is a low-risk flier. However, it may be unrealistic for Oakland to count on contribution from a player who was cut by two different teams during the offseason.
Still, Oakland has a need for young receivers. If Franklin can fit in with the Raiders, he could be a good project.
