Examining McShay's AFC West mock

ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay has offered his latest mock draftInsider in an Insider piece.

Let’s take a look at his picks for the three AFC West teams with a first-round pick:

Denver, No. 2

Marcell Dareus, defensive tackle, Alabama

My take: I’m with McShay here. Dareus seems like the top choice. I also agree that Texas A&M linebacker Von Miller should be the choice if Dareus goes No. 1 to Carolina.

San Diego, No. 18

Muhammad Wilkerson, defensive lineman, Temple

My take: I like Wilkerson and he fits San Diego. But I think the Chargers may have better options and Wilkerson could be taken a few spots later. If the pass-rusher run starts as early as McShay projects, I could see San Diego move up to grab one.

Kansas City, No. 21

Brooks Reed, defensive end, Arizona

My take: McShay has long loved Reed. He admits this might be high. Reed fits the mold of players the Chiefs like, but I think they could get him by trading down. If the draft goes as McShay’s board predicts, I could see the Chiefs taking a tackle here if they don’t move down.

Oakland doesn’t have a first-round pick because it traded it to New England in Sept., 2009 for defensive lineman Richard Seymour.
