The Sunday mail is delivered:
Timo writes: Bill: Jamarcus Russell is looking like a star...Zach Miller catches everything thrown his way....But they still need a deep threat, if your Al Davis do hit the open market (Koren Robinson, Terry Glenn) or hope that Javon Walker is still that guy ?
Bill Williamson: Let's not get too carried away here, Timo. Russell looked good at Tennessee and he could be on his way, but let's not anoint him yet. As for Miller, I think he is going to be a beast. I can see him becoming a Pro Bowl player very soon. And as for the deep threat, Oakland could bring in a guy off the street but don't expect someone to solve all the problems at point. Even though it is a risk, Walker is the team's best hope as of now.
Jason writes: With no clear #1 running back, huge depth at wide receiver and a talented quarterback, shouldn't Denver attempt to be a pass-oriented offense?
Bill Williamson: It makes sense, Jason, but in Denver, the run always sets up the pass. Mike Shanahan has to have a good running game. Even though Denver will throw often. Shanahan's offense is predicated on a good running attack. That's the way it will always be in Denver, regardless if there is a star tailback or not.
Joseph writes: Hey Bill, I just would like to say you are doing a great job. My question is since I'm a big Raiders fan, how well do you think Michael Huff will play now that he is in his natural position?
Bill Williamson: Thank you, sir. Huff is a player to watch. He will be helped by the position switch and the presence of new Oakland safety Gibril Wilson. I would not say this is a make or break season for Huff, who was taken ahead of Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler in 2006, but he needs to make progress. Now, with the position switch, this is his best opportunity for success.
Big J writes: Bill, I'm just as happy as Herm with our draft, but why would the Chiefs not be interested in Lito Sheppard? Surtain could battle flowers for the other starting spot, with the loser sliding to the nickel spot, and we don't have to worry about another db for the next 4-5 years!
Bill Williamson: Don't get me wrong, Lito is a good player and he could help. But that is not the direction the Chiefs are headed. The Chiefs want to grow their own players. They love rookies Brandon Flowers and Brandon Carr at cornerback. Both players will likely start this year as the Chiefs begin their rebuilding process.
Alex writes: Do you see the Broncos going after Jay Feely to help with the kicking game and with the altitude I really think it could help. What do you think?
Bill Williamson: They are casually monitoring Feely. But they do like their current kicker, Matt Prater. If Prater collapses, Feely could be in play. But Prater will get every opportunity to make to the team. Kansas City is also monitoring Feely.
Sean writes: Do you think Nnamdi Asomugha and D Hall can both make the pro bowl this year? It's not impossible, considering the whole Dallas team went last year...
Bill Williamson: If so, the Raiders are going to be great shape. Look, they are both good players so there is a chance. It could be difficult for both players to get there and Hall will be challenged often as teams stay away from Asomugha, because he is so dangerous. But there is a chance.
Gabriel writes: What is the status of the Chiefs linebackers? Who is expected to start? I know Donnie Edwards and Napoleon didn't play on Thursday in Chicago and Derrick Johnson has yet to play to his potential.
Bill Williamson: I talked to Chiefs defensive coordinator/linebacker coach Gunther Cunningham and he likes the progress of the unit. The group will likely be, at this point, Johnson and DeMorrio Williams on the outside and Pat Thomas in the middle. Edwards, who has been hurt, and Harris could be backups. Like every Kansas City unit there are question marks but potential.
Russ writes: Bill, Who's your hunch to win the #3 receiving position in SD. With Neal gone will they be more likely to run more three receiver sets? Thanks, Russ in Nashville.
Bill Williamson: Legedu Naanee is a guy the Chargers really like. He has potential. The Chargers like Buster Davis. Both players should get some time behind Vincent Jackson and Chris Chambers.
