An analysis on NFL.com deems the chances of the Denver Broncos trading quarterback Kyle Orton as “unlikely.”

It reasons that Orton gives the Broncos a better chance to win right away than second-year quarterback Tim Tebow and the Broncos may not get what they want for Orton in return.

We have addressed this subject often, including a look at the pros and cons of making Tebow the starter. I still think Tebow should start now because the Broncos are beginning a new era, they need to make a decision on their long-term quarterback this season, and because Orton is a free agent at the end of the year.

I realize that a lengthy lockout increases Orton’s chances of staying in Denver, but in the end Tebow will get a chance at the job whether Orton is on the roster or not.

In other AFC West nuggets Wednesday:

The Chiefs announced more than 120 employees will participate in a tornado cleanup effort in Joplin, Missouri. The town was devastated by a recent tornado. Among those in attendance will be Chairman Clark Hunt, general manager Scott Pioli, quarterback Matt Cassel, receiver Dexter McCluster and rookies Jon Baldwin and Rodney Hudson. The NFL is allowing the players and other team employees to come together for the effort despite the lockout.

If you have an extra $12,000 lying around, here’s a way to spend it. Yeah, I don’t blame you. I’m not interested, either.

There are four AFC west players, including the underrated Antonio Garay and Wallace Gilberry, in the top 10 of Pro Football Focus’ pass rushing productivity list. Thanks to the reader who pointed it out to me.
