Gates getting healthy during lockout

San Diego Chargers' star tight end Antonio Gates is putting a positive spin on the lockout. Gates, who dealt with several injuries last season and ended up on the injured reserve, told Pro Football Weekly the extended lockout has allowed him to heal.

"The end of last season was tough, but this lockout has kind of been helpful for me, because it's allowed me more time to rehab and get treatment," Gates said. "So I'm feeling really good now.”

Gates was on his way to a special season in 2010 when injuries derailed it. The Chargers offense needs a healthy Gates, so the fact that he feels strong now should pay off early in the season.
