The New York Daily News is reporting the New York Jets are exploring trading for a veteran wide receiver.
The paper centers its report around two AFC West receivers: Denver's Brandon Marshall and Kansas City's Dwayne Bowe.
The following is a breakdown of the possibility of either player being traded out of the division:
Marshall
- Why he'd be connected to the Jets: Marshall has asked for a trade from Denver, so any team looking for a receiver may start with him.
- Could it happen? Denver would part with Marshall if it was given a blockbuster deal. The Broncos have been happy with their receiving group this summer without Marshall. But the Broncos would have to be blown away by an offer. They're really aren't interested in trading Marshall this year. After the Jay Cutler fiasco, Denver feels like it just can't ship out every player who may become unhappy.
Bowe
- Why he'd be connected to the Jets: He entered the doghouse in Kansas City and has been demoted all the way down to third string, despite catching 156 passes in his first two NFL seasons.
- Could it happen? It'd be surprising. The Chiefs don't really have many other offensive weapons and they would take a big hit in trading both Tony Gonzalez and Bowe within months. Plus, Bowe wasn't demoted because the team doesn't have plans for him. He was dropped to get his attention. The Chiefs want him to be a good player for them.
