AFC West notes

August, 16, 2011
Wrapping up Monday in the AFC West:
  • San Diego tight end Antonio Gates is on a roll. He practiced for the third straight day Monday after resting a nagging foot injury. This is clearly a good sign. The Chargers want to ensure Gates is healthy for the season, so if he is working now, all systems appear to be go.
  • Buffalo cut defensive end/linebacker Aaron Maybin on Monday. He was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2009 draft. The undersized Maybin has been a complete bust. If any of the AFC West teams claim him, it would surely be just a look-see.
  • The Saints cut tackle Jonathan Stinchcomb. If Oakland is still looking for a veteran presence at the position, he could be a consideration. His older brother, Matt, is a former first-round pick of the Raiders.
