Even if Jason Campbell hasn’t thrown for more than 156 yards in two of the Oakland Raiders’ three games this season, the Oakland offense can still stretch the field.
It just does it a tad differently that other teams do. When you have Darren McFadden as your running back, things are a different; wonderfully different.
In numbers compiled by Jason York of ESPN Stats & Information, it's clear McFadden -- who is leading the NFL with 393 rushing yards -- is terrorizing defenses on the outside.
McFadden has 171 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 20 carries outside the numbers this season. He is averaging a scary 8.6 yards per carry in that situation. Six of the carries have been for a first down.
Thus, the mere presence of McFadden on this offense has to keep defenses honest. Of course, that helps Campbell pick his spots and get his work done. These are all reasons why Oakland has scored 92 points this season, which is the sixth highest total in the NFL.
