AFC West mailbag

10/26/2011

Midweek mail call:

Jesus from Fresno wants to know if I think Jason Campbell could be back as Carson Palmer's backup.

Bill Williamson: I don’t think that is what Campbell is interested in. He enjoyed his time in Oakland, but Campbell, who’ll turn 30 in December, will look for a starting job as a free agent next year. If there aren't any available, I could then see him considering returning as Palmer’s backup. However, there should be a job available for Campbell elsewhere. He showed this year he can be an effective player.

Davis from Loomis, Calif., wants to know if I think Arizona quarterback Nick Foles could end up in the AFC West.

BW: At this point, I think Denver would be the only AFC West team to consider taking a quarterback in the first round. Foles is an interesting prospect, and if he does well at the combine, he could skyrocket up the draft ladder. While I think the Broncos may have their draft hopes set on a better quarterback prospect (Andrew Luck), Foles could be in the mix.

Chris Leonard from Scranton, Pa., wants to know if I think if John Madden could become the Raiders’ general manager.

BW: The former Raiders coach is among the men who are advising Mark Davis, the son of the late Oakland owner Al Davis. I’m sure he will remain in that role as long as he is wanted. But Madden has indicated that he doesn’t want to be part of a day-to-day operations of a team at the age of 75.
