As expected, Willis McGahee’s broken hand will keep him out of Sunday’s home game against Detroit. He could also potentially miss the Nov. 6 game at Oakland.
McGahee broke his hand in Denver’s win at Miami on Sunday. The Denver Post reports McGahee will have surgery Tuesday to repair a fractured fourth metacarpal in his right hand.
McGahee had 78 yards when he was hurt in the third quarter. The free-agent acquisition has been solid for Denver.
He had 100-yard games in three of his previous four games. Third-year running back Knowshon Moreno will take over for McGahee on Sunday. The No. 12 overall pick of the 2009 draft has been injured much of the year. With McGahee out, Moreno, who was expected to be Denver’s lead back, must take advantage of the opportunity.
Moreno had just 54 yards on 17 carries this year. He is in danger of becoming a major draft bust. Performing well when McGahee is out, could help kick start his career.
