Kyle Orton is not making any promises he will be ready to play Sunday as Denver starts the season at Cincinnati.
Orton is going to try to play, but he indicated Wednesday it is no sure thing that he will play. Orton suffered an index finger injury on his throwing hand Aug. 30 against Chicago.
Denver’s coaches were pleased with Orton’s progress in the practice session Tuesday. Orton said he performed better than he thought he would. Still, Orton had to wear a glove on his throwing hand to help his grip. If Orton can’t play, backup Chris Simms has declared himself ready to go against the Bengals. Simms suffered a high ankle sprain in the preseason.
In the end, it seems Denver will have the services of both of their top quarterbacks to start the season, but neither will likely be 100 percent.
