Stats that matter in Week 16

Thanks to ESPN Stats & Information, let’s examine a key statistic for each AFC West team and what it means in Week 16:


Stat: Denver has won five straight games on the road. It is its longest road winning streak since 1998, the last time Denver won the Super Bowl.

Why it is important this week: Denver has its final road game of the year at Buffalo on Saturday. It has a chance to wrap up a playoff spot Saturday with a win and some help.

Kansas City

Stat: The Chiefs have scored fewer than 20 points in seven straight games.

Why it is important this week: The Chiefs are trying to keep their playoff hopes alive against an Oakland team that can score a lot of points. The Chiefs may need to put a lot of points on the board.


Stat: The Raiders have allowed an average of 40 points in its past two road games after allowing 23.2 points per game in their first five road games.

Why it is important this week: Oakland must improve and not let the sputtering Chiefs offense come alive as the Raiders try to stay alive.

San Diego

Stat: The Chargers’ offense has been tremendous in the past three weeks. It is leading the NFL in points per game (36.3) and yards per game (404.7) in that time span.

Why it is important this week: The Chargers are trying to stay alive against the explosive Detroit offense. This game may be a scoringfest, so the Chargers’ offense has to continue to click.
