ManningWatch: Peyton in the AFC West
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter reported that Peyton Manning has been medically cleared to resume his NFL career. This likely means that Manning will be playing somewhere other than in Indianapolis in 2012. I’m sure this story will continue to develop.
As of Feb. 3, let’s look at the odds of him landing in the AFC West:
Chances: Don’t discount a run.
Comment: I’m sure John Elway would love to take a shot at Manning. The idea of having Manning for the next two to three years may be more appealing than trying to develop Tim Tebow. Denver fans love Tebow, but I’m sure they’d love Manning, too.
Chances: Could be in play.
Comment: The Chiefs brass has said it will have competition for Matt Cassel -- meaning that general manager Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel are open to a new quarterback. The Chiefs will have the money to pay Manning, and I think he would be intrigued by the team’s roster.
Chances: Won’t happen.
Comment: The Raiders are married to Carson Palmer for the next couple of years. Had Oakland not paid a hefty trade price to acquire Palmer during last season, perhaps this would have been a nice fit.
Chances: Won’t happen.
Comment: This is Philip Rivers’ team.
