Report: Chargers could pursue Williams

March, 7, 2012
UT-San Diego thinks the San Diego Chargers could be in on star pass-rusher Mario Williams.

The question is: how much will the Chargers dedicate to pursuing Williams? He would be a great fit in San Diego, but there will be a lot of competition. Still, I understand why the Chargers would be interested in Williams. He is, by far, the best pass-rusher available in free agency. The Chargers were hoping to be in on the Colts’ Robert Mathis, but he re-signed with the Colts on Monday.

Signing a player like Williams would be out of character for the Chargers, but it would be a signal that the team is bent on winning again in the immediate future.

Other AFC West news:

Illinois pass-rusher Whitney Merculis followed-up a strong performance at the combine with an outstanding showing at his Pro Day. Merculis led the NCAA in sacks last season. He is considered a potential choice of the Chargers at No. 18.

The Oakland Raiders and Lifetime Television partnered on the network’s award-winning series "Coming Home." The Network will air a surprise reunion of active military members that took place during a Raiders’ home game last season. The episode will air Sunday.
