In an Insider piece, Gary Horton looks at the top-10 tandems in the AFC. Two AFC West pairs made the list.
Denver pass-rushers Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller are Horton’s sixth-best tandem in the conference. Horton ranks Oakland punter Shane Lechler and kicker Sebastian Janikowski at No.10.
I can’t argue with those choices. Both pairs are major plus areas for their teams.
If I had to rank the Chiefs’ best pair it would be running backs Jamaal Charles and Peyton Hillis. The free-agent signing of Hillis makes this a terrific tandem. For San Diego, I’d go with quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates. It has proven to be one of the best pass-catch combinations in the NFL for the past several years.

- The NFL changed the times of several late Sunday games that will affect the AFC West in 2012.
