This is a nice way for Matt Prater to prove he belongs in the NFL.
The Broncos announced Wednesday that their kicker will be named the AFC special teams player of the month.
Prater has converted 7-of-9 field goals, including all three tries from beyond 40 yards. He is leading the AFC in touchbacks (7), touchback percentage (46.7) and kickoffs reaching the end zone (13). Denver, 3-0, is leading the AFC in lowest opponent average starting position after kickoffs (20.6-yd. line) this season.
Prater struggled late last season, his first full NFL season, and Denver considered other kickers earlier this year. But he regained his consistency and learned how to control his strong leg.
